Prehospital: Sepsis treatment

Prabath Nanayakkara

I will mainly talk about the dilemma of defining sepsis and talk in detail about shortfalls in the old definition and dilemmas of using new sepsis definition (sepsis -3) in the acute care setting.

Thereafter I will talk about the concept of door to needle time in sepsis and the strength or lack of strength of the evidence demonstrating the benefit of early antibiotics in (all) patients with sepsis.

Finally, I will present the results of the Pre-hospital antibiotics against sepsis (PHANTASi) trial and implications of its results on the current practice.
