Increase in global trade allows for growth in developing countries, that can ultimately help create more jobs and reduce unemployment.
The challenge is to promote sustainable growth that is driven by competitive companies and create decent jobs with rights and a living wage – that is, an income that workers can live off.
It is a matter of creating stable labour markets, clear and favourable framework conditions for companies as well as for employees, decent jobs, and equal access to health care, education, and social security.
Four conditions are conducive to making growth sustainable and inclusive:
• Labour market organizations, contributing to securing development, clear agreements, rights and decent jobs
• A well-functioning social dialogue through bipartite and tripartite negotiations
• Favourable framework conditions
• Competitive companies, acting sustainably and responsibly
We, as Danish Labour Market Consortium, focus our efforts on promoting such conditions in the countries, where each organization work. This is done by establishing partnerships with local trade union movements, employers’ associations and business organizations.
The consortium seeks to be a catalyst for dialogue and cooperation between workers and employers. It is our experience, that the most durable results on the labour market are obtained through negotiation between equal parties.
Better organizing enables our sister organizations to represent their members, bargain collectively, hold each other responsible, and comply with international standards. It also strengthens them with regards to putting pressure on and negotiating with governments in order to create the necessary framework conditions for sustainable economic growth with respect for labour rights and fair competition.
