Working in the green sector

Wages and working conditions – The green sector (Løn og arbejdsforhold - den grønne sektor) It is important that you become a member of 3F and the 3F unemployment fund, the moment you get a job. This way you are secured if you are cheated with respect to wages or suddenly laid off. If, for instance, you work in the agricultural sector or within gardening, the following rules apply for you

When you work in Denmark, the labour market is regulated by the collective agreements. They are the result of negotiations between employers and employees (whom 3F represents).

3F will ensure that you have decent working conditions and get rights such as pension, paid holiday, sick pay, plus minimum wages. It is therefore important that your employer has entered into a collective agreement.

Contact your local 3F trade union prior to taking on employment in Denmark. We can help you avoid employment with poor wage and working conditions.

Remember: It is important that you keep a log of your meeting hours.

Wages

If you are covered by a collective agreement and employed within the green sector, you are – as a minimum – entitled to an hourly wage equal to DKK 149.02 (from 1 March 2023 152,17) if you are employed within the agricultural sector, or DKK 152.31 (from 1 March 2023 155,46) if you are employed within the gardening sector.

Please note that work outside the agreed work norm will release a higher overtime payment.

It is important that you contact your local 3F trade union to make sure that you receive correct wages.

Holiday

According to Danish law, you are entitled to 5 annual weeks of holiday. If your employer has entered into a collective agreement, you may be entitled to more special holidays. Contact your local 3F trade union if you are in doubt about your rights with respect to holiday.

Pension

Employees within the green sector who work at a workplace covered by a collective agreement are entitled to a pension contribution equal to 12.99% of their wages. The employer will pay 8.66% and the employee 4.33%. 3F provides a guarantee that your pension money will be paid into a pension account via PensionDanmark. You pension scheme further comprises an insurance and health-care scheme that will be in force for as long as payments are made into the scheme.
